The Night Before Christmas

I spent Christmas Eve, with the rest of my family, at my Sister Janet’s house. There was very little sign of my nephew James going to bed, he was far too excited. So, I logged onto the NORAD Santa Tracking Site http://www.noradsanta.org, in order to show him where Father Christmas had been, and how soon he would be arriving in Britain. I explained how Santa had flown from New Zealand, through Asia and the Middle East, and was now in Italy. Then I explained that Santa was off to Scandinavia, and then after a quick break at the North Pole, would be coming down to Britain. A worried look crossed his face as something had connected in his five year old brain, and he did not want to miss all his presents. All of a sudden, James wanted to go to bed. I have never seen him move so fast. And within a few minutes, my Sister informed the assembled family that he was sleeping like an angel.

the noradsantas site is amusing, i picked up on it from Wyvern’s blog. it would appear that there will be no more Buffy/Angel cons. unless someone more reliable gets their act together and does organise one. if so see you there with Wyvern and Little purple dragon again. i wouldn’t mind seeing the pics you took of us at the Paragon, kensington in the summer
have a great xmas

Pizza, Garlic Bread and a Megaine To Go

The original plan for last night had been that for my Mother to help me put up my Christmas decorations, as I had helped her do her house on Sunday. However, that was all ditched, as Carolyn, Gary and my Mother went to the Renault Dealership in Swansea to fetch their new car. A brand new Renault Megaine, four doors, dark metallic red paint. It looks stunning, and I hope to have my first trip in it this evening.

So, I decided that I would do food for everyone down my house, as I reasoned that after coming home, neither my Mother nor Carolyn would fancy turning around and cooking. So, I chucked an extra pizza and loaf of garlic bread in my oven, went up to my Mother’s house to liberate some additional ingredients for a salad, and set about doing the honours. Of course, things slipped a bit, they said that they would be home by 8:30pm, but then they decided to do some shopping in the Tesco superstore in Neath, so they finally got home at 9:30pm. I think the meal went well, everyone enjoyed it.

My Mother has promised that she will help me with my decorations tonight. It is a good job that I am not putting much up. Tasteful and timely. My tree is already in place, so I don’t lok like a complete humbug.

The Ace of Spades

So, the forces of the Coalition have captured the former President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein al-Tikkriti. Funny how it was only US troops who were involved in this particular action, you would have thought that some of the six hundred soldiers who took part in this mission would have been from Britain, Italy, Poland or any of the other member states. Now it could be argued that the British troops were in different parts of Iraq, but what about the Italians, the base that had a base in Baghdad?

Having said that, Saddam Hussain was one of the most repulsive tyrants in power. Now this coallition must prove it really does believe in the Rule of Law and Good Government (and not just Iraqi Oil reserves) by going after tyrants like Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Taking over the running of that banana republic Colombia, dealing with the fascist government and the mad Marxist terrorists.

A Bit of a Rant, and Some Festive Thoughts

What, in the name of sanity inspired Gary Jules to take Tears for Fears worse song, which was a dirge when they recorded it, and release it at an even slower tempo. His version of Mad World is truly music to slash your wrists to. What is worse, there is a strong possibility that it will be the Christmas Number One. No! The return of Mr Blobby would be better than that. Christmas is supposed to be a happy time, a celebration of peace on Earth and goodwill to all men, it does not need the depressing ranting of such a miserable git spoiling it by being to of the Singles Chart.

Whilst I am on the subject of Christmas Number Ones, I also hope that The Darkness don’t get the festive chart topper. They are trying too hard to be the new Queen. Sad to say that Justin Hawkins will never be a patch on the late great Freddy Mercury and the rest of the band are not a patch on Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.

Starting to feel a lot more festive. The library was decorated last week, with myself up the ladder, Donna one of the part time Library Assistants passing me the decorations, and Margaret directing from the counter. A real tree has been delivered, which Janice the cleaner is decorating. She started this morning with the lights and some baubles. I am looking forward to see what else is going to go on the tree.

All this means that I really should get a move on with my own house. It is not as if I am going to put that much stuff up. The tree in the front room window lights in my front bedroom windows and a few garlands here and there. I already have my tree in place, I just need an extension lead to give it the juice that the lamp that illuminates the fibre-optics needs. (more…)
